On December 8, 2022, ZEHO ECO and the consortiums won the EPC contract of Leizhou Mangrove Cultivation and Restoration Project, with 45.39 million RMB yuan. This bid is one breakthrough of ZEHO ECO in marine ecological protection and restoration, showing the comprehensive strength of the company in marine ecological construction, and laying a solid foundation for the company to develop the South China market.
Mangrove plays an important role in maintaining biodiversity, resisting natural disasters, absorbing and degrading organic pollution and fixing carbon. Zhanjiang is a major marine city, surrounded by the sea on three sides, with a coastline of 1556 kilometers, accounting for one third of the coastline of Guangdong Province, and is the main distribution area of mangroves in China. As a part of the Implementation Plan of the Special Action Plan for Mangrove Protection and Restoration in Guangdong Province, the Leizhou Mangrove Cultivation and Restoration Project will set an example for the restoration of mangroves in Guangdong Province in terms of site selection, design, construction and maintenance.
Leizhou Mangrove Cultivation and Restoration Project is in the sea area on the east and west sides of Leizhou City. The mangrove planting area is about 4034 mu, of which the afforestation area is about 2435 mu, and the habitat restoration area is about 1599 mu.
The project follows the succession law and internal mechanism of mangrove ecosystem, and adopts the combination of natural restoration and moderate artificial restoration to repair the vegetation, habitat and other conditions of degraded or lost mangrove ecosystem according to the idea of overall protection, systematic restoration and comprehensive management, to maintain the connectivity and biodiversity of mangrove habitat and realize the overall protection of coastal ecosystem. Implementing the project will effectively protect the offshore and coastline, restore the regional environmental resources, improve the landscape effect of the coastal zone, and promote the sustainable development of the local economy, society, and ecology.
